In November 1903, the first convocation of Cutler Council (named for Ill.
Brother Dr. Eben Joseph Cutler, 33°,
Commander-in-Chief, Lake Erie consistory, Cleveland, 1893-1903) was held in the
Steubenville Masonic Hall for the purpose of receiving, balloting, and
conferring the 15° and 16°
upon those who would be elected. Thirty-Four petitioners were voted upon
favorably and received the two degrees. In 1904, an organ was purchased and the Scottish Rite Choir was organized with eight Brethren as Charter Members. In the mid 1940’s , much discussion occurred about opening a Consistory in the Valley of Steubenville. A petition was circulated and signed by 374 members of the Valley. The petition was presented to the Ohio Council of Deliberation and Supreme Council. After some disagreement within the State as to the proposed name of the consistory, the name “Jefferson Consistory” (as it was situated in Jefferson County) was approved. A special convocation was held in November 1945, where 122 candidates witnessed the visiting Stark (Canton) Consistory portray the 29° and 32°. Jefferson Consistory was officially chartered on September 25, 1947.
