32º Masonic Learning Center for Children
Dyslexia - For the Children - Tutors and Tutoring Sessions

About Tutors and Tutoring

Tutoring at the Learning Center is based on the Orton-Gillingham approach. Lessons incorporate simultaneous visual, auditory, tactile (touch) and kinesthetic (movement) activities to help ensure memory of the information learned. Lessons establish proper letter sound associations and application of written language concepts (syllable types, syllable division and spelling rules). Consistent practice of the patterns that govern English results in marked improvements in reading and spelling skills.

Tutoring Sessions

In order for the tutoring to be effective, children are required to attend two, fifty minute after school lessons per week for 28 weeks of the school year. An additional 12 lessons are available in a short summer session. Again, all lessons are provided at no cost to the family.
